This was a hard day. We live in a bifurcated world, a divided world. And I don’t mean left or right, or democrat or republican. We are five days away from a crazy election day. But we know what happened in 2020, don’t we? Why should it be any different this time around? Anyway, I’m actually not talking about politics.
Yesterday, I went to an area grocery store. My homeschooled teenagers take a class at a nearby church so I run errands nearby while they are in that class. I had only a few things on my list. It was an odd list because at this point I’m just filling in the gaps. I’m also keeping it fresh with some food items like avocados and bananas. As I went through this store, I realized it was like some sort of weird maze where you have to get through the obstacles to stay alive. Or stay away from too much spike protein. (Have we continued to determine that the vaccinated folk, some of them, are still producing that? I know someone, maybe Dr. McCullough?, figured about 50% were still making it but that was a year or two ago when that came out.)
As I went through my list, I began to realize most people were like zombies. Not the Walking Dead kind okay. But the abandoned their cart, were staring at the shelves, and were not moving quickly kind of zombies! I saw that every aisle and the ends too had people that looked lost or disoriented. Two people were having a very detailed conversation about canned this or jarred that in the middle of the aisle. Maybe that’s normal? Why didn’t they get to the side? The rest of us had to go around them somehow. I think I left my cart near the aisle entrance and I grabbed my item and then went back to my cart and got out of there. Most everyone moved very slowly. It was so bizarre!
I don’t love grocery shopping but I get it done. I will admit in the past, sometimes, with the kids, I’ll tell them ok, pretend we’re on Guy’s Grocery Games and let’s get this done quickly! But there was NO quickly today. It was between 2:30-3pm. Mostly older folk but there were all ages of adults. Oh, and 1 masked child. And a few other masked people.
There were people slowly moving but not on their ‘side'. You know the unofficial rules of grocery shopping: stay on the right, pull over if you will be taking some time to choose your item, and don’t abandon your cart haphazardly in the way of everyone else. I can’t explain the oddness of it all. It was weird living it. I need to go back and see how it goes another time. There were no rules being followed. Carts were all over, people looked blankly around, and some were pushing carts but looked lost.
Has anyone else experienced this type of thing?
Then later, I was a sub for my colleague and I taught her Bible class for 3rd-5th graders. I normally have the Sunday morning 3rd-5th graders. One child was visiting with one of our regular kids. This visitor had just buried her 8 month old baby brother the day before! We had our class and at the end, we said our prayers. That little girl wanted to say a prayer and she did, for her little brother. It was heart wrenching and soul stirring. What has been done to the children? Some are dead, some are dying, and some are sad and hurt. It was a very hard day.
What will this world look like soon? Both Professor Miller and Dr. Makis are having trouble keeping up with even a fraction of the deaths. Dr. Makis said he stopped doing compilations because they were too many deaths. Too many deaths, and most of the people are planning Halloween parties, holiday get togethers, and football fun, so surreal?!
There is a song by a gospel quartet, I think, that covers the sweetness of children even better than this song. But I can’t remember it right now.
